Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that availabitity to clean water is a fundamental human right so for this purpose water should be supplied free of cost to every home. I completely agree with this view because clean water reduces the spread of disease and it is good for mental health. This essay will explore how these factors justify my opinion.

The first and most important reason why i agree with this statement is that pure water is essential for a healthy life. This is because with the availability of fresh water can protect us from dangerous germs. For example, consumption of pure water in children can reduce water- borne illnesses like cholera and other stomach infections. Thus, this factor clearly demonstrates that how clean water is necessary for children as well as for whole society.

Secondly, another significant point to support my stance is that pure and fresh water is very important for mental health and for overall performance in daily life. In other words, clean water maintains the body temperature during hot summers and cold winters as well as it boosts daily physical performances. For instance, according to a survey , drinking eight to ten glasses of fresh water can meet daily hydration goals and preventing from different health related problems. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water access. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention disease prevention and mental health, the arguments are not fully extended. For instance, the link between water and 'mental health' is not clearly explained, as the subsequent explanation focuses on physical hydration and body temperature. Additionally, the essay ends abruptly in the conclusion, leaving the final sentence incomplete. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a deeper analysis of the implications of the argument rather than just stating the benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'The first and most important reason', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the abrupt ending of the final paragraph negatively impacts the overall flow and coherence of the conclusion. To improve, ensure that your concluding paragraph is fully developed and provides a cohesive summary of the points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamental human right', 'water-borne illnesses', and 'hydration goals'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'availabitity' instead of 'availability' and 'complusory' instead of 'compulsory'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repeating the same words (e.g., 'pure water', 'clean water') by using synonyms or paraphrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'demonstrates that how clean water is necessary' (incorrect clause structure) and 'preventing from different health related problems' (incorrect preposition usage). Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i' used for the first-person pronoun. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional phrases to improve your accuracy.
