Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that having access to the clean water is a common human right. Owing to that, each and every home might have a supply of water and should be free of cost. However, I believe water plays a major role in human life, and providing it free has its own drawbacks.

It is widely believed that having a supply of clean and pure water in every home is very important when it comes to daily household chores, such as cooking, washing and cleaning. Moreover, denying clean water can affect people's health and quality. For instance, a proper supply of pure water can prevent the problem of water diseases like malaria and dengue

Furthermore, providing water without any charge have many consequences. it is generally required to keep the pipelines maintain and a proper water treatement, which requires funding to goverment. Also, if people become habitual of excessive use of water can lead to unresponsible member of the society for instance long time shower or keep watering the garden, due to that a normal individuals life can get affected.

On the contrary, I stronglly agree a certain amolut of free water is a basic right of every human being but after some point is should be charged by people and should respect the fossil fuel and use it as per their need

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you present a clear position, the arguments are somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, the point about water-borne diseases like 'malaria' is factually questionable in the context of clean water supply, and the discussion on government funding is brief. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more specific examples or deeper analysis. Because the essay is under-length, the depth of the argument is limited, preventing a higher score in this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'On the contrary'. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the transition 'Owing to that' is used incorrectly to start the second sentence. Additionally, the final paragraph is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear concluding thought. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports your overall position.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'unresponsible member' instead of 'irresponsible' and 'fossil fuel' when referring to water, which is a significant error in meaning. You also struggle with collocations, such as 'water treatement' and 'keep the pipelines maintain'. To improve, focus on learning word families and common collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic and topic-specific terms will help you express your ideas more clearly and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'providing water without any charge have many consequences' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'if people become habitual of excessive use of water can lead to' (missing subject/clunky structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for basic sentence construction errors. Practicing complex sentences while ensuring they remain grammatically sound will help you achieve a higher score.
