Student answer (Band 6.0)

Clean water is one of the biggest necessities for living a healthy life. Water is used for multifarious purposes such as cooking food, drinking and so on. I completely agree with this fact that every home should have the access to clean water.

To embark on, water serves as an important part for not only the human beings but also for all the creatures living on blue planet. Firstly, people can live without eating food for several days, but it is not possible to live without water. There are various areas where people are still not provided with the clean drinking water. They are forced to drink polluted water. Consequently, it badly affects their health and even cause diseases. Secondly, water is used daily in our kitchens, for cooking food, washing fruits and vegetables, cleaning the utensils. Clean water is required for carrying out our routine activities. Otherwise, it may cause serious health issues to all people of all ages.

Clean water is also the biggest requirements for those who are running food business like cafes, hotels and restaurants. The Government should initiate some steps to provide clean water supply to all the homes and that too free of cost. They should make sure the factories situated nearby the residential areas should be shifted far. The waste released from those factories not only affect the population living there but also the water creatures. Furthermore, they should take steps to clean all the sources of water supply so that clean water should be delivered to each and every home. Additionally, the Government can also arrange campaigns to increase awareness among people to use water in appropriate way and also motivate them to preserve clean water for the future generation.

To conclude, in my opinion, each and every home should be provided with the clean drinking water free of charge which is a basic right of human beings living on the Earth, for which the contribution of both Government and people are equally important.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of free water access. The ideas are relevant, such as the health implications of polluted water and the role of government in infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the health argument is well-supported, the suggestion regarding businesses (cafes/hotels) receiving free water is less logically connected to the 'basic human right' argument. To reach a higher band, you should focus on deepening the analysis of the social and economic impact of free water rather than listing various government responsibilities, which makes the argument feel slightly like a list of suggestions rather than a cohesive persuasive essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Consequently', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'To embark on', which is not a standard idiomatic phrase for introducing an argument. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, and the flow between the health argument and the government policy section could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph transitions naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'multifarious', 'polluted', and 'appropriate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'biggest necessities' is slightly unnatural; 'fundamental necessity' would be more precise. Similarly, 'appropriate way' is vague. There are also minor errors such as 'the clean drinking water' (the article is unnecessary here) and 'the human beings' (should be 'human beings'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding unnecessary articles before general nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical slips. Examples include 'I completely agree with this fact that...' (should be 'I completely agree that...'), 'it badly affects their health and even cause diseases' (subject-verb agreement error: 'causes'), and 'the factories situated nearby the residential areas should be shifted' (missing 'that are'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly clunky. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher score.
