Student answer (Band 6.0)
H2O is one of the most essential resources for human beings. It supports our lives in many aspects, and we can not live without it; That is why there are people saying ‘water is the source of life However, in terms of providing clean water for every home free of cost, I hold a negative standpoint. This essay will explain why I do not agree with this opinion.
Firstly providing clean water for free will lead to the abuse of using water because there would be a strong possibility that people will see water as an infinite resource since there is no cost to using it. Therefore, people will no longer cherish water resources. This will cause a significant increase in water consumption and waste , and severely burden the water supply system in the city. The budget for water management will also increase, which means there will be less expenditure in other parts of social welfare. Eventually, the quality of our lives will be inevitably affected.
Secondly, humans are not the only animal that needs the water. Outside of the human world, there are numerous animals that also rely on water. There are already reports in many places reflecting that some of the wildlife died because of the water shortage. Some of the environments are experiencing the problem of drying up. These example are warning us that we should pay attention to the effects of human activities.
In conclusion I regard providing water for free us not being a good practice because it will lead to the west of water ultimately lowering the quality of our lives we should also be aware that there should be a balance between human water use and the natural environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt by clearly stating a negative position. The main arguments—that free water leads to waste and that environmental concerns must be considered—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. The first body paragraph touches on the economic impact of water management, but the second paragraph is less focused; while it mentions wildlife, it does not strongly connect this to the argument against free water for homes. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of how pricing mechanisms influence conservation, rather than relying on general statements. The position is consistent, but the depth of support could be improved.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition to wildlife issues feels abrupt. Additionally, punctuation errors, such as the missing full stop after 'life' and the run-on sentence in the conclusion, disrupt the logical progression of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'essential resources', 'infinite resource', and 'social welfare'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling that slightly hinder the flow. For example, you used 'west of water' instead of 'waste of water' and 'These example' instead of 'These examples'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise collocations. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to environmental policy and economics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include missing articles ('the water' vs 'water'), subject-verb agreement issues ('These example are'), and run-on sentences in the introduction and conclusion. The punctuation is often inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and full stops. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. You should focus on mastering basic sentence boundaries and ensuring subject-verb agreement in your writing.
