Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is a crucial factor in life that no creature on the whole planet can survive without. Getting access to water has become a major issue in our contemporary society, especially in rural areas or developing communities . From my own perspective, I firmly believe that having a clean water source in every home is an indispensable need, and it must be provided for free.

To begin with , water is a significant factor that can affect humans health, whether positively or adversely. The way water affects individuals depends on its level of hygiene and filtration. For instance, people in need who live in developing countries usually struggle from health issues caused by a shortage of clean drinking water. The only source of water available for them might contain huge amounts of pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, as a result of spreading sickness, epidemics spread across individuals such as Cholera. Catching sickness caused microbes occasionally lead to death, especially for people with weak immune systems such as children.

Furthermore, it is an essential right for every house to be freely equipped with clean water. Accessing water is not just a matter of health, it extends to reach the up coming generations. Governments in sophisticated countries are doing their best to achieve self-sufficiency for their future descendents. Unless homes are provided with appropriate water supplies, individuals in the future would struggle from health issues, shortage of public services such as hospitals, and lack of nutrition-security. That is to say, it is vital to maintain a society where water is completely free human right, not a product to be used for commercial purposes.

In conclusion, governments should do more effort to provide clean a drinkable water for their nations. It seems to me that water cannot be replaced by any other alternatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address the prompt by discussing health implications and the concept of water as a human right. However, the response is somewhat limited in its development. While you mention that water should be free, you do not address the counter-argument or the practical implications of such a policy (e.g., how governments would fund the infrastructure), which would have added depth to your argument. The ideas are relevant but could be extended further to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'epidemics spread across individuals such as Cholera', which is slightly awkward. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'indispensable', 'pathogenic', and 'self-sufficiency'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'do more effort' (should be 'make more effort') and 'nutrition-security' (which is not a standard collocation). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, these occasional errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without causing confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'humans health' (should be 'human health'), 'struggle from' (should be 'struggle with'), and 'clean a drinkable water' (article error). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Your control of complex sentences is developing, but more consistent accuracy is needed to reach the 7.0 band.
