Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's advanced industrialization era, clean water is a widely debated topic because it is the basic need of every individual. Clean water is a basic human right because every citizen need it for day-to-day task, so it should be free. I largely agree with this statement because it is helpful to protect citizens from bacterial diseases such as dysentery.

Every individual wants to live healthy life. Fossils of industries are harming water sources such as lakes, canals and dams. The government has to ensure that every citizen get clean water, therefore they will not get sick from several stomach diseases. For instance, the capital city of Pakistan Islamabad offers free water to every citizen with pipeline but a current research indicated that poor management leads to increase stomach diseases. A proper governs able to provide clean water to every citizen by pipelines every year.

Another argument is that, many countries didn't have sources of clean water such as Gulf countries. Therefore, they installed salination plants in every city to provide clean water in every city but its not free for everyone. Every individual is not able to purchase clean water in these countries because they are temporary residents. For example, a huge number of population from Asian countries lives there for employment. They spent a lot of amount to purchase clean water. If clean water free for everyone, they can save huge amount.

To conclude, although many countries already providing free clean water, poor management leads to sickness. If they properly maintain pipelines efficiency this situation can be tackled. When everyone have free access to clean water they can save huge amount for their families. In my opinion, clean water is an essential part of our lives. It should be free by the government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified the core issue—clean water as a human right—and provided arguments regarding public health and economic accessibility. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For example, the mention of 'fossils of industries' is unclear, and the argument regarding Gulf countries is slightly tangential to the main point of 'free' supply, as it focuses more on the cost of desalination. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting example directly reinforces your central argument about why the government should bear the cost, rather than just describing the current situation in specific regions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Another argument is that' and 'To conclude', which help the reader follow your train of thought. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the mention of Islamabad and the general statement about 'proper governs'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'industrialization', 'desalination', and 'temporary residents'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'proper governs' (should be 'proper governance'), 'spent a lot of amount' (should be 'spent a large amount'), and 'fossils of industries' (which is unclear). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your argument. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every citizen need it', 'many countries didn't have sources', 'everyone have free access') and article usage. Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'its not free' (should be 'it is not free'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help you progress.
