Student answer (Band 5.5)

I totally agree to the idea that clean water is the right of every human being and families should have access to it without any cost.

Firstly, water, being a necessity of life, is crucial for every form of life on earth and without it everything seizes to exist. Human body being mostly made up of water needs to replace whatever it has lost through out the day, in the form of respiration, sweating and urination. Moreover water has to be clean for drinking and cooking purposes. Dirty water or water contaminated with microorganism would cause a drawback to life.

Secondly, people living in under developed areas are struggling to earn penny for their daily bread and butter, charging them for clean water supply would put them in hand to mouth situation. Moreover it would become difficult for a large families to pay such a huge amount for everyone to have a glass of water everyday.

My village is one of many in South Punjab region, where water was in scarcity. There used to be few shallow wells and hand pumps schattered miles away from the village itself. Even water, in most of the open wells and in running canal, was not suitable for human consumption. People, who could not afford the drinking water supplied by private companies, had to travel on foot such a long distance to have their bottles, clay pots and cans filled. But few years back, the provincial government initiated a movement ''Clean Water For Everyone'', where they installed electrical motor that would supply clean drinking water through duct channels to every household in the village.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported by personal experience, which adds depth to your argument. However, the essay lacks a concluding paragraph, which is a significant omission for a balanced Task 2 response. While the arguments regarding health and economic hardship are valid, they could be further extended to reach a higher band. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of your main points and restate your position in a final paragraph to provide a sense of closure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a distinct aspect of the argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second body paragraph and the personal example is somewhat abrupt. Additionally, the lack of a conclusion affects the overall coherence of the piece. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows naturally into the next, culminating in a well-structured summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contaminated', 'consumption', and 'scarcity' effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'seizes to exist' (should be 'ceases') and 'earn penny' (should be 'earn a penny'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focus on using more academic collocations and refining your spelling to avoid minor slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I totally agree to the idea' (should be 'agree with'), 'Human body being mostly made up' (missing article 'The'), and 'schattered' (spelling). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the use of articles, and proofreading for common spelling mistakes.
