Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 142 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you state a clear position in the introduction, the arguments provided in the body paragraphs are underdeveloped and the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and explanations to reach the required length. The task requires a balanced discussion of the prompt, and the current brevity prevents a full exploration of the topic, which significantly impacts the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic paragraphing and some linking words like 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover', which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, and the lack of a conclusion means the essay lacks overall coherence. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly. The abrupt ending also disrupts the logical flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'basic need', 'clean water', and 'free of cost'. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'make burden on government' instead of 'place a burden on the government' and 'running tap Unclosed'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations related to the topic of public services and economics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Human have rights' (subject-verb agreement), 'providing water at free' (preposition error), and 'if people do not pay money for that then they running tap' (missing auxiliary verb). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy is essential for a higher score.
