Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, tidy water is a basic need of everyone. That's why every household should have a water supply that is provided without any charges. I firmly agree with this statement and in this essay, I will give the reasons and examples to support my argument.

First of all, clean and chemical free water is a basic need of every person and it is very crucial that tidy water should be provided to every home without any charges. The reason is that everyone cannot afford clean water due to its high prices and they have only option to use unhealthy water that is very dangerous for their health especially for kids. Therefore, it is essential to provide healthy water to every person for free. Furthermore, The people who lived in countryside do not have access of clean water and they use the same water for themselves and for their animals. The government should need to provide water filtration plants in countryside so they can drink clean water.

The one more reason is that people drink unhealthy water because they do not have enough time to bring healthy water from a store because they are busy in their work and sometime they drink cold drinks instead of drinking water that is not good for their physical health.

So, the higher authorities should need to provide clean water at every home.

In conclusion, there is a massive disadvantages of drinking dirty and unhealthy water therefore, clean and chemical free water is a basic need of every human.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water supply. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health risks and the needs of rural populations, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and repetitive. For instance, the point about people being 'too busy' to buy water is not a strong or logical argument for universal free supply. To reach a higher band, you need to extend your ideas with more sophisticated reasoning, such as discussing the economic implications for governments or the distinction between basic survival and luxury usage. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize the main points presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'First of all', 'Furthermore', 'The one more reason'). There are instances where the logical flow is weak; for example, the transition between the health risks of dirty water and the suggestion for filtration plants is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'there is a massive disadvantages' contains a grammatical error that disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You frequently use the word 'tidy' to describe water, which is an inappropriate collocation; 'clean' or 'potable' would be much more accurate. Other phrases like 'healthy water' are simplistic. There is some repetition of basic terms, and the essay lacks the 'less common' lexical items that demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to public health and infrastructure, and try to avoid repeating the same adjectives throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The people who lived in countryside do not have access of clean water' (should be 'the countryside' and 'access to'), 'The government should need to provide' (redundant modal verbs), and 'there is a massive disadvantages' (subject-verb agreement error). While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your use of articles is consistent.
