Student answer (Band 6.0)

WATER IS ONE OF THE MAIN NECESSITY FOR A LIVING. HENCE, I BELEIVE THAT IT SHOULD BE A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT TO ACCESS HYGIENIC WATER FOR ITS DAILY USE AND THEREFORE, EVERY HOME SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE WATER SUPPLY.

DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING, SCARCITY OF WATER IS ONE OF THE MAIN ISSUES ACROSS THE GLOBE. HENCE, GOVERNMENTS HAVE INCORPORATED TIGHTEN RULES AND TIMINGS TO AVAIL FRESH WATER AFTER THE PROCESS OF DISTILLIATION BY THE WATER COMPANIES. DESPITE THE PRICE OF A WATER BOTTLE, PEOPLE STILL INTEND TO PURCHASE AS WATER IS VERY ESSENTIAL IN DAY-TO-DAY LIFE. WATER IS NECESSARY FOR COOKING, WASHING, CLEANING AND SHOWERING. THESE ARE THE BASIC NEEDS OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL. IF PEOPLE ARE CAUTIOUS TO USE WATER APPROPRIATELY, IT WILL HELP THE GOVERNMENT TO RULE THE WATER OUTPUT IN A PARTICULAR STATE AND HELP THE ONE IN NEED THE MOST.

THE RISING PRICE OF UTILITY BILLS IS ONE OF THE MAJOR CONCERNS. GOVERMENTS CHARGING FOR WATER SUPPLY PER HOUSEHOLD IS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING IN MOST OF THE COUNTRIES. MEANWHILE, COUNTRIES LIKE INDIA AND AFRICA HAVE CLEAN WATER SUPPLY ONLY ONCE A DAY FOR FEW HOURS. THEREFORE, THEY TEND TO STORE THE WATER IN CONTAINERS FOR THEIR DAILY USE. FURTHERMORE, IF GOVERMENTS CAN SUPPORT FAMILIES AND SUPPLY FREE WATER FOR LONG HOURS PER HOUSEHOLD, IT WOULD CERTAINLY BE HELPFUL TO EVERYONE.

IN CONCLUSION, ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. THEREFORE, GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES MUST SUPPLY WATER FREE OF CHARGE DESPITE THE SOARING PRICES OF OTHER BILLS.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the necessity of water and the financial burden on households are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited; the essay relies on general statements rather than providing specific, well-supported examples. For instance, the mention of India and Africa is a good start, but it lacks depth regarding how free supply would specifically function or be managed. The conclusion restates the position clearly, but the overall development of ideas remains at a basic level, preventing a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Furthermore', and 'Meanwhile' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the progression of ideas within the second paragraph is a bit disjointed, jumping from global warming to individual usage habits without a strong thematic link. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their opinion clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'scarcity', 'incorporated', and 'soaring', which demonstrate a reasonable range. However, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'tighten rules' (should be 'tighter rules') and 'avail fresh water' (which is misused here). Spelling errors like 'BELEIVE' and 'GOVERMENTS' also occur. While these do not impede communication, they limit the score to the 6.0 band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'one of the main necessity' (should be 'necessities'), 'if people are cautious to use' (should be 'cautious about using'), and 'help the one in need' (should be 'help those in need'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the use of all-caps in the first paragraph is inappropriate for formal writing. The frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, as they are noticeable throughout the text.
