Student answer (Band 5.5)
Access to clean water provides basic human necessary things in domestic life. I believe that every home should have a clean water supply with free of charge.
Water is a necessary thing for humans since our existence. Providing clean water should be accessible to every human.
This is because water is commonly used to drink, when we are thirsty. Without the water, we couldn't survive in the world. There is also other use of clean water like cooking, where we use the clean water to cook. If we don't use clean water, it's going to affect on our health, making us vulnerable to different diseases.
The other important thing of using the clean water is for bathing.
Bathing is one of necessary things in human life. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health and hygiene, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth regarding the economic or social implications of providing free water. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how'—for example, discussing the role of government subsidies or the impact on impoverished communities. The focus remains quite narrow, relying on basic points about drinking and bathing rather than exploring the broader societal benefits or potential drawbacks of such a policy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you frequently start sentences with 'This is because' or 'The other important thing'. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. To improve, try using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in light of this' to create a smoother flow between your ideas and to better connect your supporting points to your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'necessary thing' and 'clean water' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'affect of unknown virus' and 'get affect with different types of disease'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on using more academic synonyms (e.g., 'essential resource' instead of 'necessary thing') and ensure you are using verbs and prepositions correctly, such as 'affected by' rather than 'affect of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('you might will affect'), missing articles ('take bath'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('which is transmit'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common mistakes like article usage and verb tense consistency. Increasing your use of error-free complex sentences will also help you achieve a higher score.
