Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people need to have a clean water as a essential human right. Therefore, government should provide a water supply free from charges. In this trend, providing a clean water with no charge will benefit the community.

On the other hand, officials need to provide no charge for water supply because people needs water for their everyday use. For example, cooking dishes, washing, drinking and for hygiene purposes. Water is use for daily routine because it will helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For instance, if carbonated drinks are cheaper than water. People will buy with their budget rather than getting the drink that will be beneficial. Drinking adequate amount of water will help our body organs. Government need to implement that water is the essential needs of human and should be provided as a basic necessities.

However, as people we need to ensure that we are using it properly. On the other side, it's expensive to maintain clean water and we need to help each other to pursue getting no charge water in coordinating with the government. We need to ensure we do alternative things and don't waste water. For instance, when washing dishes instead of letting the water run, just turn it off and open it when needed. It will help to ensure that enough water will be provided to everyone.

In conclusion, getting a free charge water is important to every body since this is one of the basic needs of individuals. However, proper way of using it should be followed and use only the amount of water you needed per day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the provision of free water. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent; while you argue for free water, you also introduce the counter-argument about the expense of maintenance without clearly refuting it or balancing it effectively. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. For example, the argument about carbonated drinks is a bit tangential and does not strongly support the core economic or human rights argument. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and maintained throughout, with each paragraph providing distinct, well-developed supporting arguments rather than repeating the same points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression between ideas is often weak. Transitions like 'In this trend' and 'On the other side' are used incorrectly or sound unnatural, which disrupts the flow. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between carbonated drinks and the government's responsibility is not explicitly connected. To improve, use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'free from charges' instead of 'free of charge' and 'getting no charge water'. You rely on basic vocabulary and repeat words like 'water' and 'provide' frequently. There are also some minor errors in word formation, such as 'a essential' instead of 'an essential'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and improve the academic tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people needs water', 'government need to implement'), article usage (e.g., 'a clean water'), and verb tense/form errors (e.g., 'Water is use for daily routine', 'it will helps'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex sentences while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
