Student answer (Band 5.5)

The clean water is crucial for the humans to survive as it keeps our body hydrated and even it is important for the daily household chores and without water this universe can not function properly. I agree that water supply should be provided free of charge to every household as it’s the right of the society.

The water is nature’s gift to the world which shouldn’t be charged as everyone should have right to use it as it helps to make food, our body requires water, also taking shower and clean ouselves and also washing the clothes everything evolve around water so in this poor and rich both should have equal rights to use. As charging them will make less affordable for the poor ones and they may die or even if they manage to buy cheaper quality or not an purified water this may cause several diseases to them like breathing problems and may more.

However, their might be cost involve in cleaning the water and then supplying it to every house so it’s also right to charge for clean water supply as they may use machines to clean it, install pipelines and delivery cost counts too so charging a minimal cost to cover all expenses is okay as it’s minimal cost so that everyone can afford it. The charge should be applied on it because people only care the things more which are not easy to get and pay for it, may over consume it so setting a price will make people to use it carefully and appropriately.

Conclusively, I agree that it is every ones right to have access to clean water supply as it is needed to survive and providing it free of charge make it further easy to access for each and every household as no charge to be given against it to consume it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a position, but the development is inconsistent. You present arguments for free water, then pivot to arguments for charging for water, and finally conclude by agreeing with the initial premise. This creates a contradiction in your stance. While you provide some relevant ideas, such as the cost of infrastructure and the need to prevent over-consumption, the argument lacks a clear, unified direction. To improve, ensure your position is maintained consistently throughout the essay and that your supporting points directly reinforce your thesis rather than undermining it in the final paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'and also', 'as it is'). The transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt, and the logical flow is hindered by the conflicting arguments mentioned in the task achievement section. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show contrast or consequence more effectively. The conclusion is somewhat repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points raised.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure' (implied), 'consumption', and 'purified'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'everything evolve around water' instead of 'revolves', and 'make less affordable' instead of 'make it less affordable'. Some expressions are slightly informal or imprecise, such as 'the clean water is crucial for the humans'. To reach a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is used in a way that sounds natural and academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the clean water', 'the humans'), subject-verb agreement ('everything evolve'), and prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences that lack proper conjunctions or full stops. For example, the second paragraph is essentially one long, loosely connected sentence. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence boundaries and ensuring that articles and verb forms are used accurately. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score.
