Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, water has been contaminated in various ways. Some individuals argue that consumption of clean water is a basic human right and a pure water supply should be accessible in every house. I totally agree with this view.

To begin with, to stay healthy, people need to consume pure water because contaminated water have some infectious virus. By consuming such water, individuals can fall into fatal diseases, which in turn hamper them physically. To get rid of these virus attacks, people have to ensure a pure and clean water supply. For instance, some surveys show that in many African countries, many people suffer from bacterial diseases which have spread by drinking polluted water as they do not have sufficient pure water supply. Furthermore, a country's overall development is totally dependent on its population. In every segments of individuals' lives, clean water plays a significant role since people have to consume pure water to stay alive and to cook their food items as well. If people cannot access it easily, they may fall into serious sickness. Consequently, residents of those countries who do not have adequate pure water supply cannot attend their work places or classes, this in turn impacts negatively the overall condition of any nation.

Another reason is that citizens in any country have their own right to claim a clean water supply to their residence. As the general populace are providing a significant amount of taxes to their nation, that is why the authorities should have take the accountability to fullfill the basic needs of their citizen. Thus, the free water service should be installed in every citizen's house.

In conclusion, it is clear that government should provide a pure and clean water supply to people as they pay taxes and pure water is directly connected with health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, particularly the link between health and water quality, and the argument regarding tax-funded public services. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about national development is a strong concept, but it could have been expanded with more specific reasoning on how free water specifically alleviates economic burdens. The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, but the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the health argument and the economic argument in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic, which helps the reader follow your line of reasoning effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contaminated', 'infectious', 'accountability', and 'populace'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'hamper them physically' (which is slightly unnatural in this context) and 'fullfill' (spelling error). You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'pure and clean water supply'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'contaminated water have some infectious virus' (subject-verb agreement error), 'authorities should have take' (incorrect verb form), and 'impacts negatively the overall condition' (awkward word order). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing auxiliary verbs.
