Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access water is very important to humans survival. I agree with the statement water supply free for house works. However, I think the free water should be limited to a reasonable amount of water.

To commence with, firstly, the water is essential for human life. Individual need water for cooking, drinking and washing. In other words, if poor families pay high prices for water they may not able to afford for their daily needs. For example, low-income families may find it difficult to pay monthly water bills. Providing a basic amount of free water would reduce their financial burden. Therefore, governments should provide every household minimum amount of safe water without charge.

Secondly, providing free basic water can reduce inequality in society. Rich people can easily pay their water bills, whereas low-income families may struggle to do so. For example, families living in rural or economically disadvantaged areas may have limited supply to clean water. A government-funded water supply could help these people do not afford paying bills to water.

Shifting towards the, that the water completely free water without any limit increases the water wastage. To elaborate, people use fix amounts of water for some activities such as cars washing and watering for large gardens. Therefore, government should provide fixed amount of water for these activities free of charge. For instance, if people receive unlimited free water, they may waste it by washing cars or watering gardens however, when citizens receive fix limited amount of water do not waste enough water. As a result, extra usage should be charged.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that every home should receive a basic supply of clean water free of charge because water is essential for life and public health. Nevertheless, additional consumption should be paid for to prevent unnecessary waste.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position that supports free water for basic needs while advocating for charges on excess usage. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the distinction between essential survival needs and luxury consumption. However, the development is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'water supply free for house works', which slightly obscures the clarity of the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that the central position is articulated with more precision in the introduction and that the supporting examples are more seamlessly integrated into the logical flow of the paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a distinct aspect of the argument. The use of cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' provides a clear structure. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the phrasing 'Shifting towards the, that the water completely free water'. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'these activities' referring back to a list that could be more explicitly defined. Improving the variety and naturalness of transition words would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial burden', 'economically disadvantaged', and 'additional consumption'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'Access water is very important to humans survival' (should be 'Access to water' and 'human survival') and 'do not afford paying bills to water'. The range is sufficient for the task, but the errors in word formation and collocation prevent it from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the water is essential'), prepositions ('paying bills to water'), and verb forms ('they may not able to afford'). Some sentences are structurally awkward, such as 'when citizens receive fix limited amount of water do not waste enough water'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammatical structures and refining the use of articles would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
