IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an inevitable truth that water is the basic need of every human being and according to this, it is the common right of every human to get clean water for their use. As some people deem that water should be provided to every residence at free of cost. I am not fully agree with this notion and the upcoming paragraphs will support my viewpoint.

Commencing with, there is plethora of reasons which states that why humans need water. The first and the foremost reason that strikes in my mind is water is the basic need of every human and individuals cannot survive without it. To explain it, people use water for everything, like cooking washing, drinking, irrigation and so on. So, they cannot even think to live without it, as it is their essential thing for the survival. Another reason is that if water is provided free of cost then every section of society can afford it. To exemplify, many people who are below to the poverty line and can hardly afford one meal of the day, so these types of people cannot pay the bill of the water and resultantly, they cannot survive for the long time without water.

On the another hand, it had better if charges are applied to the supply of the water because by this, people may understand the value of water and do not waste it. Because, when people pay for anything then they may use that thing more carefully. To cite a pertinent example, in every nation, individuals have to pay the electricity bill and because of that they usually use electricity with proper caution, as the same if water supply is also given at prices then people also use the water with proper care.

In conclusion, after giving the aforementioned viewpoints, it is clear that water is the basic necessity of every human but with the help of bill on its supply makes people more careful about its usage.

While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'irrigation' and 'residence,' the overall range is limited, and the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content.

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable.
