Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments rely heavily on the biological necessity of water rather than exploring the economic or social implications of providing it free of charge. The points are under-developed, and the essay lacks the depth required for a higher band. The conclusion simply restates the introduction without adding any new insight or summarizing the main points effectively. To improve, you should focus on providing specific reasons, such as public health benefits or economic equality, and support them with clear examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'So that' is used excessively) or misused, such as 'And then' and 'lastly' which do not flow naturally. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical development of the argument. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks coherence, as sentences often feel like a list of statements rather than a connected argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Basic words like 'thing', 'life', and 'water' are used throughout the text, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'basic needed', 'extra ordinary thing', and 'famous status'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic with precision. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more academic and topic-specific terms, such as 'essential resource', 'public utility', 'socio-economic', or 'fundamental right', and focus on using them in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every peoples life', 'body need a enough water'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain fragments, and there is a lack of complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and verb forms is essential.
