Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, many countries are facing problems with water, all humans need water to survive. As a result, every country should provide water at free of cost. This essay will argue that why I strongly agree with this statement, because humans have the right to access clean water without spending a single cent.

To begin with, in many countries the main authorities are charging cost for water. People need it for drinking, cooking and also for washing. If poor people cannot afford clean water, they are forced to use contaminated water, which can cause diseases. For example, in some rural areas, people are using contaminated water sources such as polluted rivers and unsafe wells, because they cannot afford clean water. Therefore, the government should have to supply clean water to every households without charging a single cent.

Furthermore, charging no cost for clean water can reduce financial burden for low level families, because in some rural areas individuals are spending their savings for their children's educational purpose. As a result, they will loss financial stability. Moreover, government should provide free water supply to every households in rural areas. For instance, in rural areas individuals are facing financial stability. As a result, government should provide free water to every houses in rural areas.

In conclusion, in some countries are facing problems with water, all humans need water to survive. As a result, every country should provide water at free of cost. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the second and third paragraphs focus heavily on the same point regarding rural areas and financial burden, rather than exploring broader implications or alternative perspectives. The conclusion is also problematic as it essentially repeats the introduction verbatim, which does not contribute to the development of the argument. To improve, you should aim to provide distinct, well-supported arguments in each body paragraph and ensure the conclusion synthesizes your main points rather than restating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by significant repetition, particularly in the third paragraph where the same point about financial stability is stated three times. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', the links between sentences are sometimes mechanical or redundant. The conclusion is particularly weak in terms of cohesion, as it simply copies the introductory sentences, failing to provide a logical summary of the preceding arguments. Improving the flow between sentences and avoiding circular reasoning will help raise this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'charging cost' and 'financial stability', which is repeated multiple times. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'provide water at free of cost' (should be 'free of charge' or 'at no cost') and 'low level families' (should be 'low-income families'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to the topic of public services and socio-economic issues to demonstrate a wider lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently make errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'at free of cost' and 'to every households' (should be 'to every household'). There are also issues with verb forms, such as 'they will loss' (should be 'they will lose') and 'This essay will argued' (should be 'This essay will argue'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and pluralization will significantly improve your accuracy.
