Student answer (Band 5.5)

Water is a natural resource and gift for livelihood. Whereas a few individuals contend that government should provide free access to clean water. However, I strongly agree to the notion that free access to clean water is basic human right because human do not survive without water.

First and foremost, water should be supplied to metropolitan areas as well as countryside because water is basic need and all republics should provide water free of cost. Furthermore, in recent world expenditures are already high due to increased population and poor class people cannot afford food properly then how poor people buy water. Hence, water should be supplied for free in each of the world. For example- Notions like India and Luxembourg provide free access to water which represents humanity and development.

In addition, clean water includes nutrients, minerals and vitamins which promotes health and on the other hand dirty water triggers various diseases like cancer, infections, allergies, hypertension, hypotension, diabetes mellitus, and other skin diseases. Therefore, health consequences represents weak nation and also destroys human presence. For instance- according to WHO 30% of people died due to dirty and toxic water consumption. Henceforth, to save the lives government should provide free and clean water.

In conclusion, according to my prospective individuals should also play their part in society and organise awareness campaign to save water as well as do not contaminate water and stop throwing industrial waste into water bodies because industrial waste contains toxin which triggers severe disease and lead to death. Henceforth, we need to stop over consumption of natural resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for free water, such as health benefits and economic necessity, some points are over-generalized or lack logical depth. For instance, the claim that 'India and Luxembourg' provide free water is factually questionable and lacks specific context. The conclusion introduces new, albeit relevant, points about industrial waste and individual responsibility, which shifts the focus slightly away from the core argument of government-funded supply. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on supporting the main thesis with more precise, verifiable examples and avoid introducing new arguments in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Henceforth, to save the lives'. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented, such as 'For example- Notions like India...', which disrupts the flow. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the connection between the conclusion and the preceding arguments could be tighter. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help the essay flow more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'natural resource', 'metropolitan', 'hypertension', and 'contaminate'. However, there are instances of word choice errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'Notions like India' (instead of 'Nations') and 'poor class people' (instead of 'the impoverished' or 'low-income families'). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the use of medical terminology like 'diabetes mellitus' is a bit forced in this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for a formal academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'government should provide', 'in recent world'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'health consequences represents'), and punctuation mistakes, such as the misuse of hyphens and dashes. The sentence 'Whereas a few individuals contend that government should provide free access to clean water. However, I strongly agree...' is a sentence fragment. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammar and sentence structure.
