Student answer (Band 5.5)

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. Therefore every society should have a facility of water supply from the government free of cost. I strongly agree with this statement because it is necessary to have a water supply in every society.

To begin with, access to fresh water is essential now a days because many individuals are suffering from cholera and typhoid which occurs because of dirty water especially elderly people. If the clean water is not provided then it will be more difficult them to survive in the society. For instance, children's and elderly people consume more quantity of water as compared to young generations and if this continues their immune system will be weaken.

Moreover, Every household should have a water supply free of cost from the government that will help them in their daily use and reduce the risk of dehydration for solving this issue government should build enormous tanks in the community which will lead the water easily into the houses and should properly maintain the tanks by cleaning and repairing when ever required. In addition, governments can use rain water harvesting system to collect clean water for storing in to tanks. For example, if there is not sufficient clean water for houses then they can adopt this method.

In conclusion, clean water is essential in modern times because of diseases and daily use of households for utensils, cooking, gardening and etc. I strongly believe that clean water should be provided free of cost in domestic premises.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water supply. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health benefits and infrastructure, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For instance, the claim that children and the elderly consume more water is not a standard argument for free water, and the focus on 'rain water harvesting' as a solution for government-provided free water is slightly tangential to the core debate of economic policy and human rights. To reach a higher band, you should focus on the economic or social implications of universal free access versus the potential for waste or lack of funding for maintenance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the sentence 'if this continues their immune system will be weaken', where the antecedent for 'this' is unclear. The transition between the health argument and the infrastructure suggestion could be smoother to improve the overall logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'free of cost' and 'water supply'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'immune system will be weaken' (should be 'weakened') and 'domestic premises' (which is slightly formal/legalistic for this context). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to public policy, infrastructure, and socio-economic rights.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'now a days' (should be 'nowadays'), 'children's and elderly people' (incorrect pluralization), and 'will be weaken' (incorrect verb form). Additionally, there are punctuation and article errors, such as 'for solving this issue government should build' (missing 'the'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
