Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 157 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for a discussion on whether water should be free, the response provides a series of repetitive, underdeveloped statements about the importance of water rather than a structured argument. The position is unclear, and the response lacks the necessary depth, examples, or logical progression required for an academic task. Because the response is substantially under-length and lacks a clear, supported argument, it does not address the task requirements adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of a single block of text. There is no logical progression of ideas; sentences are strung together with repetitive use of 'and' or 'because', and there is a lack of cohesive devices to link arguments effectively. The flow is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's line of reasoning. Referencing is often unclear, and the lack of paragraphing makes the text appear as a stream of consciousness rather than a formal essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. Words like 'water', 'human', 'life', and 'important' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There are significant errors in word choice, such as 'make body dehydrate' (which means the opposite of the intended meaning) and 'unless things' (likely meaning 'useless things'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the misuse of terms frequently impedes the clarity of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('water play an important role'), article usage ('a basic on human rights'), and sentence structure (many fragments and run-on sentences). Punctuation is inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. The errors are pervasive and occur in almost every sentence, which significantly hinders the reader's ability to understand the intended meaning.
