Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the necessity of clean water and the feasibility of free supply. However, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the depth of development. While the position is clear, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack sufficient supporting examples or detailed analysis. The conclusion is abrupt and incomplete, ending mid-sentence. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure the essay meets the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by abrupt transitions and repetitive phrasing. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'Government'. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is fragmented and lacks a clear concluding thought. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is significant repetition of basic terms like 'water', 'free', and 'government'. Some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'no water pipeline areas' or 'provide a water facilities'. The range is limited to common, everyday language. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the English language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('It cause skin diseases', 'Government have provide'), article usage, and sentence structure. The use of all-caps throughout the text is inappropriate for an academic task. While the meaning is generally understandable, the errors are persistent and occasionally impede the flow of reading. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect pluralisation.
