Student answer (Band 6.5)
Clean water is a fundamental human right and should be provided to every home without charges. While I agree to a great extent, I also disagree slightly.
I agree that access to steady water supply is a fundamental human right and it should be without charges. It is said that 70% of the earth is water while just 30% is land. Which means that water is already in an inexhaustible supply. Water is needed for almost all essential human activities such as drinking, cooking, bathing, washing laundry and dishes. Therefore, all homes should have uninterrupted supply of water in order to ensure a comfortable living. Moreover, there are already enough bills to pay that makes cost of living a major source of stress for most people, such as house rents, feeding, gas, education and energy. So water should be free of charge in order to reduce cost of living. Also, nature already made water available through rain, streams, and underground sources.
However, there are a few reasons why one might disagree that water should be without charges. Some areas have high aridity or other environmental conditions that can make clean water supply very difficult to provide, as a result, government or private firms spend so such to provide and purify water in such areas. For example the Niger Delta area of Nigeria is so polluted with crude on their land and water which makes it difficult to access clean water. In this areas, government spend so much on water supply and can charge at subsidized rate.
In conclusion, while I strongly agree that clean water should be supplied free of charge to every home since it is in a very high supply by nature, a lot of money is spent in some areas due to certain environmental conditions that might warrant subsidized water bill.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments for both sides of the issue, such as the economic burden of utility bills and the logistical challenges of water purification in specific environments. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'inexhaustible supply' of water is scientifically inaccurate and weakens your position. To reach a higher band, ensure your supporting points are logically sound and more thoroughly explored. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it could be more nuanced.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'However,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the use of 'In this areas' (should be 'these areas'). Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the general right to the specific challenges of implementation. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamental human right,' 'uninterrupted supply,' and 'subsidized rate.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'spend so such' (a typo) and 'high aridity' (which is slightly unnatural; 'arid conditions' would be better). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is sufficient but not particularly sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'Which means that water is already in an inexhaustible supply' (a sentence fragment) and 'government spend so much' (subject-verb agreement error; should be 'governments spend'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors that occur throughout. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for accuracy.
