Student answer (Band 5.0)

Access to clean drinking water is the basic human right. Although not everyone is lucky enough to get access to this right 24/7. In fact, problem is severe in the third world country like Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.

People from the rural side of these country travel miles to fetch clean drinking water. Poverty is one of the main factor apart from geological location, corruption & illiteracy. In contrast to this, modern cities like Delhi & Mumbai in India is facing the same issues.

According to human biology, people are made of 70% water. On average an adult man/woman need to drink at least 6-7 liters of water every single day. But most of us don't fulfill this minimum limit and get sick now and then. It is important to note that, we should only drink purified water as tap water contains micro bacteria and virus which can cause diseases like Cholera, Jaundice etc.

There is also another rising issue happening right now. Artificial Intelligence is powered by the GPU. Which generates lots of heat while processing. To cool off these GPU, all the companies are using water based cooling system. Every single day these GPUs are consuming thousands of liters of water.

In conclusion, clean water is becoming a scarce asset day by day. Even though this should be one of our basic human right. It is high time we stop wasting water in our daily life and those who have proper access to clean drinking water, make sure to fulfill their daily threshold of water consumption.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the topic but fails to take a clear, consistent position on whether water should be provided free of charge. While you discuss the scarcity of water and the need for conservation, you do not explicitly argue for or against the prompt's proposal of free supply. The inclusion of the paragraph regarding Artificial Intelligence and GPU cooling is largely irrelevant to the core argument about human rights and public water supply, making the response feel disjointed. To improve, ensure every paragraph directly supports your stance on the specific prompt provided and avoid introducing tangential topics that do not contribute to your central thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between them is weak. The transition from discussing rural water poverty to human biology, and then to AI technology, is abrupt and lacks cohesive links. While you use some cohesive devices like 'In fact' and 'In conclusion', the overall flow is hindered by the lack of a clear thematic connection between the paragraphs. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Which generates lots of heat', where the relative pronoun lacks a proper antecedent. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring each paragraph builds upon the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'scarcity', 'purified', and 'consumption', but there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'rural side of these country' (should be 'rural areas of these countries') and 'make sure to fulfill their daily threshold'. The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and varied academic vocabulary to express your ideas more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('an adult man/woman need to drink', 'these country'), missing articles ('is the basic human right'), and sentence fragments ('Which generates lots of heat while processing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, such as pluralisation and article usage, will help improve your score.
