Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, arguing in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the points regarding basic human needs and agricultural benefits are relevant, the explanation of the government's financial burden in the third paragraph is slightly contradictory to the overall stance, as it is not fully reconciled with the argument for free provision. The essay covers all parts of the task, but some arguments, such as the economic benefit of exporting agricultural products, could have been more thoroughly explained to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'On that note, it says that...' and 'To initiate with', which is used incorrectly to start the second body paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical inaccuracies, which makes the progression feel slightly disjointed in places.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'indispensable', 'contemporary epoch', and 'scarcity'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'enhance money' instead of 'generate revenue' or 'increase income', and 'surrounding desserts' (likely a misspelling of 'deserts'). These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited control over more sophisticated lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('government should provide', 'people are still suffered', 'water have few drawbacks') and article usage. Some sentences are structurally awkward, such as 'the reason for my inclination also be discuss further'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Punctuation is mostly functional, but there are some run-on sentences and comma splices that affect the overall accuracy.
