Student answer (Band 5.5)

Clean water is an essential necessity for everyone; water is a basic need for every household chaos. It has been argued that water supply in every household should be free. I completely agree with this view because providing free access to clean water can protect public health.

Undoubtedly, water is an indispensable need of every living organism in this nation, and most importantly, clean water. If the government provides clean drinking water, it will ensure that individuals do not rely on packed bottles of water, which is hazardous for their health; for instance, abroad, countries provide clean drinking water from every tap in their houses, even in the roadside taps water are also drinkable; because of that, tourists will get water easily without any investment.

Moreover, free access to clean drinking water also helps low-income families; if they get clean and healthy water at their household tap, then they do not need to invest in water. Because of this, people who live in rural areas and get healthy water will be able to make their life easy and make their lifestyles healthier. Sometimes people need to invest in water, such as buying motors and RO systems, which completely wastes their money, especially for underprivileged individuals.

In conclusion, I believe that free access to water provides huge help to individuals, and protect their health, and makes their lives healthy and wealthy. It will improve the lives of impoverished communities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the response is under the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the main arguments regarding public health and economic support for low-income families are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The examples provided, such as the mention of 'abroad' and 'motors and RO systems', are a bit vague and could have been expanded to better support the central argument. To reach a higher band, you must ensure you meet the minimum word count and provide more detailed, nuanced explanations for your points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Undoubtedly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the health benefits and the economic benefits. The logical progression is generally sound, but the overall structure feels a bit simplistic. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a more distinct, well-developed focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'indispensable', 'hazardous', and 'underprivileged'. However, there are some instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'household chaos' (which seems out of place) and 'make their life easy'. Some collocations are also slightly unnatural, such as 'invest in water'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focus on learning more academic collocations and refining your word choices to sound more natural in a formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'even in the roadside taps water are also drinkable' contains a subject-verb agreement error and awkward syntax. There are also issues with punctuation and sentence fragments, such as 'because of that, tourists will get water easily without any investment.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit your score. You should work on sentence construction, specifically focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of complex sentence connectors.
