Student answer (Band 7.0)
Increasingly, debate surrounding the widespread shit towards recognising clean water as a basic human right and making it free of cost has gained significant attention. Although there are different views on this matter, I strongly believe that allowing free supply of water to ensure adequate water supply to everyone is the most pragmatic approach to adopt in modern society.
A primary justification for this view is that it significantly enhances not only water affordability but also ensures its proper supply to the poor. Specifically, poor people can use clean water and comfortably enjoy a healthy lifestyle. For instance, many healthcare institutions reported a massive improvement in the hygiene of the poor people.
Admittedly, a noticeable increase in the wastage of water cannot be ignored. This is specifically because people overuse water as it is free of cost. To illustrate this drawback, many municipalities often find it extremely difficult to meet the increasing demand of water supply. However, provided there is sensible management this issue can be resolved. Therefore, we should still focus on allowing free supply of water to ensure adequate water supply to everyone rather than worrying too much about short-term consequences.
In conclusion, when looking at the issue of clean water as a basic human right the best choice is clear. I firmly maintain that removing charges on basic water consumption to ensure enough water supply to everyone is the most effective approach. While concerns regarding an increase in the wastage of water are valid, the long-term advantages ultimately outweigh any temporary setbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant and logically structured, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the suggestion that 'sensible management' could resolve water wastage is mentioned but not elaborated upon with specific examples or mechanisms. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations or concrete examples of how such management systems function in practice. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the main arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'Specifically', 'Admittedly', and 'To illustrate' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the repetition of the phrase 'ensure adequate water supply to everyone' in multiple paragraphs slightly impacts the fluidity of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'pragmatic approach', 'healthcare institutions', and 'temporary setbacks' are used appropriately. There is a minor error in the first sentence ('shit' instead of 'shift'), which is a significant spelling slip. While you use some less common items, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, try to incorporate more varied collocations and avoid repeating the same phrases, such as 'free of cost' and 'water supply', which appear frequently throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and error-free, which allows for easy communication. There are some minor grammatical issues, such as the missing article in 'use of water' or the slightly awkward phrasing 'removing charges on basic water consumption'. However, these errors do not impede understanding. You have a good grasp of punctuation and sentence construction. To achieve a higher band, aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, with greater precision.
