Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. While you mention that water is a basic right and a government duty, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. The essay relies heavily on restating the same point—that water is essential for survival—rather than exploring the economic or social implications of providing it free of charge. To improve, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments, perhaps discussing the balance between government funding and resource management, which would provide a more balanced and comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices; you rely heavily on simple conjunctions and repetitive phrasing. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt, and the final paragraph feels like a fragmented summary rather than a cohesive conclusion. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'in light of this') to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, ensuring that each idea leads logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the same words, such as 'clean water,' 'survival,' and 'free,' throughout the text. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'universal access,' 'public utility,' 'economic burden,' or 'infrastructure.' Avoiding the constant repetition of the same phrases will help demonstrate a more flexible and precise command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Clean water help us'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'should be provide,' 'should be supply'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structure is often repetitive, lacking the variety needed for higher bands. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically passive voice structures and subject-verb agreement, before attempting more complex, multi-clause sentences.
