Student answer (Band 6.0)
Water is a basic necessity for the mankind for survival. Each and every individual should have access to pure water free of cost. In my opinion, I completely agree with the statement because water is required for survival and for day-to-day chores. This essay will state my opinion along with relevant examples.
To begin with, water is imperative for each and every organism on Earth for survival. The main reason is water scarcity as the consumers are numerous whereas, the water is either impure or there is shortage of water. For instance- Nowadays, a large amount of water is polluted by the waste produced by the manufacturing industries which is precarious and is released directly into the lakes and rivers which are one of the main sources of drinking water.
Secondly, water is basic requirement and should be provided free of cost because there are people who cannot afford to buy water due to lack of resources or poverty. However, they still have the right to drink clean water as it is a human right. Water is required by everybody and should be supplied to the houses of people through proper water supply which should be cleaned timely to prevent people from facing any illness or diseases due to lack of impure water supply. Additionally, people should not be charged for their basic rights and should be provided pure and clean drinking water free of cost.
To conclude with, water is one of the prominent source which is consumed and required by all the organisms on Earth and hence, should be provided to everybody, free of cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding human rights and the necessity of water for survival are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited; the essay would benefit from exploring the economic implications of 'free' water, such as how governments would fund infrastructure or prevent wastage. The ideas are presented but remain at a somewhat general level. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced analysis or counter-arguments to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the complexities of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Additionally' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the connection between industrial pollution and the argument for free water could be more explicitly linked to ensure a tighter logical progression throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some attempts at using less common vocabulary, such as 'imperative', 'precarious', and 'prominent'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice or collocation errors, such as 'lack of impure water supply' (which is logically confusing) and 'mankind for survival'. To improve, focus on using collocations more naturally and ensuring that words are used in the correct context to enhance precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'one of the prominent source' (should be 'sources') and 'the mankind' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here). Additionally, there are some punctuation and phrasing issues, such as the hyphenated 'For instance-' and the awkward phrasing 'due to lack of impure water supply'. Increasing the variety of complex structures while reducing these minor errors would help elevate the score.
