Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing agreement with the idea that water should be free. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. While you mention health benefits and the importance of water for agriculture, the arguments lack depth and logical progression. The prompt asks for a discussion on whether water should be provided free of charge, but the essay focuses more on the general importance of clean water rather than the economic or social implications of free provision. To improve, you should focus on providing specific, well-supported arguments that directly address the 'free of charge' aspect of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. Ideas are often presented in a disjointed manner, and the transition between sentences is frequently abrupt. For example, the shift from discussing human rights to the environment and then to 'cookies and groceries' lacks logical flow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'Therefore', but they are often used mechanically or inappropriately. The progression of ideas is not always clear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'clean water', 'dirty water', and 'diseases'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'making cookies and other groceries items' and 'rich in poor water', which are unnatural and confusing. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations related to public policy, economics, and environmental health.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'diseases that happens'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors in complex structures, such as 'It is our rights to protect our environment as well as nature'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
