Student answer (Band 5.0)
The primary human necessity is to have access to clean drinking water. Hence, each house on planet earth must have sufficient supply of water that is of no cost. Knowing that water is the major factor for the survival of a human being, I mostly agree that people should be getting it with no charge.
Water plays a crucial role in a person's life. Most of the public start and end their day with a glass of water. Not only for quenching their thirst they also use it for various other purposes like hygiene or cooking. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the arguments remain underdeveloped. You mention that free water prevents financial burdens and potential wars, but these points are not supported with sufficient detail or logical extension. Because the essay is incomplete and fails to reach the required length, it cannot fully address all parts of the task. To improve, you must expand your body paragraphs with concrete examples and deeper analysis to meet the word count and demonstrate a more comprehensive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows a basic attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and the start of body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to judge the overall coherence of the piece. You use some cohesive devices like 'Hence' and 'Not only... but also', but the flow is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of a conclusion and the unfinished final sentence prevent the development of a clear progression of ideas. To improve, ensure you complete your thoughts and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some appropriate terms like 'primary human necessity' and 'financial burden', but there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'each house on planet earth' (which sounds slightly informal) and 'paying hefty amount of money' (which should be 'a hefty amount'). To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and ensure your word choices are precise and natural in an essay context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'people should be getting it with no charge' (which would be more natural as 'receiving it free of charge') and 'in the future generations' (which should be 'for future generations'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete nature of the text limits the assessment of your ability to maintain accuracy across a longer piece. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, and aim to vary your sentence structures further.
