Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people believe that water should be supplied without any charge to all household as access to clean water is a basic human right. However, I disagree with this opinion because overuse would lead to shortages of water and putting a charge on it would help in using the water wisely.
Water is a basic need and should be accessible to humankind but anything provided free to people, loses its importance and value. So , if clean water is provided free of cost

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under-length at only 83 words, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you establish a clear position in the introduction, the argument is cut off abruptly after only two sentences of development. To achieve a higher band, you must fully develop your ideas with supporting evidence and examples, ensuring the essay reaches the required length. The current response is too brief to demonstrate the ability to develop a coherent argument or provide a balanced discussion as required by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While the initial sentences are linked using 'However' and 'but', the text ends mid-sentence, which prevents any meaningful evaluation of cohesion. To improve, you need to structure your essay into clear paragraphs—an introduction, body paragraphs with topic sentences, and a conclusion—using a wider range of cohesive devices to connect your ideas logically throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is functional and appropriate for the topic, such as 'basic human right' and 'free of charge'. However, the range is very limited due to the brevity of the response. There is no opportunity to demonstrate the use of less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, focus on incorporating topic-specific vocabulary related to economics, public policy, and resource management, and ensure you have enough space to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar in the provided sentences is generally accurate, with correct use of complex structures like 'Some people believe that...' and '...because overuse would lead to...'. However, the range of structures is limited. The text ends abruptly, which is a significant issue. To reach higher bands, you need to demonstrate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, including conditional sentences and passive voice, while maintaining high levels of accuracy throughout a full-length essay.
