Student answer (Band 6.0)

Clean water resources should be provided to humans as it is a basic human right. Every home should provide with the basic water amenities free of cost by officials. I agree with the statement because it will improve health conditions all over the country, also strong mutual bonding between the government and the locals, while heavy fines should be imposed against those who waste clean water.

On the one hand, clean water source helps to maintain healthy life. Contaminated water contains numerous types of bacteria, which people use for food, drinking and washing clothes. Therefore, it causes them to suffer from severe diseases like lung cancer, diarrhea and throat issues. For instance, in South Asian countries like Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, lack of clean water resources or heavy taxes are imposed on clean water. That forces people to use dirty water, especially people who are living in slums or rural areas. Furthermore, when officials provide basic amenities for free, like water resources. So it helps to develop strong bond between government and locals. This help to motivate them and work for betterment of nation. Local riots comes to an end. For example, when water resources were not fulfilling the needs in Africa, protests became popular throughout the country.

On the other hand, clean water resources is a basic human need according to UN Charter. But if it will be free of cost, people will take water resources less valuable. For example, gallons of water in my own city is wasted for washing cars and watering trees and plants. Government should impose heavy fines or a small fee for water access should be taken into consideration to make it available to those who need it urgently.

In conclusion, I believe clean water is a basic human right and it should be provided for living a healthy life, but it shouldn't be wasted.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have presented relevant arguments regarding health benefits and government-citizen relations, and you have also acknowledged the counter-argument regarding potential wastage. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the link between 'heavy taxes' and 'lung cancer' in the second paragraph is scientifically questionable and lacks logical depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are more accurate and directly relevant to the specific claim being made. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though the transition between the benefits of free water and the necessity of fines could be more nuanced.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting a sentence with 'So it helps to develop...' or 'But if it will be free...'. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This help to motivate them', where the antecedent is ambiguous. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to previous nouns will strengthen the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'amenities', 'contaminated', and 'imposed'. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'clean water source helps to maintain healthy life' (should be 'a healthy life') and 'Local riots comes to an end'. You also rely on some repetitive phrasing. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that you are using academic vocabulary in the correct context. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Local riots comes to an end', 'clean water resources is a basic human need') and article usage ('provide with the basic water amenities'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as 'Furthermore, when officials provide basic amenities for free, like water resources. So it helps to...'. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and sentence boundary errors.
