Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water supply. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention urbanization and electricity generation, these points are not fully explained or logically connected to the main argument. The counter-argument regarding water wastage is relevant, but the explanation is somewhat simplistic. To improve, ensure that each main idea is supported by a clear, logical explanation and a specific example that directly relates to the topic. The introduction is also quite brief and lacks a clear thesis statement that outlines the essay's structure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'On the another hand' and 'The second disadvantage' are used, but the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' when referring to abstract concepts. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns to create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'basic human need' and 'clean water' repeatedly. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'pessimistic for locals' (where 'detrimental' would be more appropriate) and 'unnecessarily things'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and collocations related to social policy and resource management, while ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'is basic human need'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'access of clean water' instead of 'access to'), and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'population require'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and pluralization.
