Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued by some people that water should be available as free of cost to all the people of a country as it is the basic human right and is used for numerous purpose like drinking, washing, cooking, bathing etcetera. I strongly agree with this viewpoint and this essay will provide reasonable arguments to prove my side.
One of the major reason is that water is one of the basic necessities that is required for the survival. Therefore, it should be free for everyone. For instance, if it is paid then disadvantaged and people with weak financial background will not be able to access it which will lead to disparities among the masses. As a result, it will create unrest in the society and people might come on roads to protest. It is largely because paying 20 cents for every 1 liter bottle may not bother a rich person but it take a high toll on the pocket of a poor person.
Although, water should be used in a responsible manner because its unnecessary wastage will result into shortage of water. A case in point is that in few areas of Rajasthan, people have no access to drinking water due to which they need to travel several miles in order to fetch the water from the wells. However, the water level in these wells has also gone lower than earlier times due to over usage.
To conclude, I believe that government should provide water to its people without charging a penny and organize various campaigns to aware them about the importance of water and educate them to use it in a sustainable way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have clearly stated your position and maintained it throughout the essay. The arguments regarding social equality and the necessity of water for survival are relevant and well-supported. However, the development of the counter-argument regarding water conservation is slightly disconnected from the main prompt of 'free supply'. While you mention the need for sustainable use, you could have more explicitly linked how a free supply could still be managed sustainably (e.g., through tiered pricing or usage quotas) to strengthen your argument. Overall, the response addresses all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'As a result', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the link between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between the Rajasthan example and the argument for free water could be more tightly integrated to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'disparities', 'necessities', and 'sustainable'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'free of cost' (which is redundant; 'free' or 'at no cost' is better) and 'aware them' (should be 'raise awareness'). You also use 'take a high toll on the pocket', which is a good idiomatic attempt. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'One of the major reason' (should be 'reasons'), 'people have no access to drinking water due to which they need to travel' (a bit clunky), and 'organize various campaigns to aware them' (should be 'raise awareness among them'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of infinitive and gerund forms.
