Student answer (Band 5.5)

Water is the first and the most important thing that is required for the survival of any kind of species, without water we can survive the least as compared to any other thing. Having access to clean and drinkable water is the most basic requirement of a human being and it should be free, but unfortunately many people in the world still do not have access to clean water. I personally think that everyone should have access to clean water and free of cost.

Today humans have progressed and developed so much that they have successfully reached moon, but unfortunately we are still not able overcome the most basic need for human life. Many people aren't even getting clean water and those who are getting have to pay monthly bills.

I agree that clean water cannot be free because if it would be free, people would waste a huge amount of it, but it should also not be that much expensive that a normal man cannot hace access to it. More than 70 percent of the earth is made up of water but we still haven't figured

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 187 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a position, the argument is cut off abruptly at the end, leaving the essay incomplete. The ideas presented, such as the balance between free water and the risk of wastage, are relevant but remain underdeveloped due to the lack of length. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure the essay reaches the required length to fully explore the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay shows some logical organization, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending prevents a proper conclusion, which disrupts the overall flow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'but' and 'today', but the transitions between ideas are somewhat basic. The paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which hinders the overall coherence of the argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you provide a concluding summary that synthesizes your main points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use repetitive phrasing, such as 'clean water' and 'basic requirement'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'hace' (typo for 'have') and 'the least as compared to any other thing', which is slightly awkward. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'reached moon' (missing article 'the'), 'if it would be free' (incorrect conditional structure), and 'not that much expensive' (incorrect comparative structure). These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering conditional sentences and article usage, and ensure you proofread for minor slips in spelling and word order.
