Student answer (Band 5.5)
clean water is nescessary for life. some people believe that every home should get a water supply completely free of charge because water is a basic human right. I agree with this view that poor people can get water free because they have the right to get it because it is the basic human right and poor people can get help.
on the other hand, providing clean water is important for poor families. clean water is needed for health, cooking and for cleaning. In any areas many poor families can struggle for clean water. if government provide a free basic amount of water in every home. It help to save people for many diseases and save their lives. the people are really thankful to them. it will ensures that no poor people gets sick or loses their life simply because they can't afford to get clean water.
secondly, making all water free of cost has major dissadvantages and problems that if people get free water they does not value it. when a valueable resources like water if free.people stop caring about it and wasting it carelessly. furthermore running a clean water system requires alot of continous money. In conclusion, clean water is a vital human right but making it completely free for everyone is not practical. while supporting poor families is very important, totally free water can lead to heavy wastage and lack of funds for maintenance. providing a small amount of water to small income people and chosing for extra usage for works best.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding free water. However, the position is somewhat contradictory; you initially agree that water should be free, but then argue that making it 'completely free for everyone is not practical.' This inconsistency makes your overall stance unclear. While you provide relevant ideas such as health benefits and the risk of wastage, the development is limited. The arguments are somewhat repetitive, and the conclusion introduces a new, nuanced solution (providing a small amount for free) that was not fully explored in the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout and dedicate more space to developing your main arguments with specific examples or logical consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'secondly' is used to introduce a new point, but the transition between the first and second paragraph is abrupt. There are also issues with referencing; the use of 'them' in 'the people are really thankful to them' is ambiguous, as it is unclear who 'them' refers to. Additionally, the flow of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by fragmented sentence structures. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') would help create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'get', 'important', and 'good'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'nescessary', 'dissadvantages', 'valueable', and 'continous'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations, such as 'essential resource' instead of 'important' or 'financial burden' instead of 'money'. Paying closer attention to spelling and word choice will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('if people get free water they does not value it'), article usage ('in any areas'), and punctuation errors, particularly with sentence fragments ('if government provide a free basic amount of water in every home. It help to save...'). These errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
