Student answer (Band 5.0)

Water is a basic human right. Without water there is no life. Water is a great blessing of God. I partially agree with the statement that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of cost However, water is a basic element of the planet Earth. Water is a universal solvent. Firstly, there is a lot of water on the planet Earth, but the water of the earth in the oceans and seas is not for drink because water in oceans is full of salt. But we can drink the water of canals, rivers etc, these are called fresh water. Unfortunately, the fresh water on planet earth is polluting day by day. So, there is a need of fresh and clean water . Private institutes have provided water to the public but they sell expensive clean water . That's why, public does not buy clean water due to its high rate. So, the government should provide the clean water to the public without cost. But there are many concerns such as water availability, conservation of water and excessive use of water. But the government should provide free water to the poor people , also give costly water to the rich people. That's a solution in my mind. Dirty water is harmful for the lungs. In conclusion, without clean water there's a risk of human life. Government should build some sectors for that purpose.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a partial agreement, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the writer touches on the importance of water and the role of government, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The suggestion to provide free water only to the poor is a relevant point, but it is not explored with sufficient detail or logical support. To improve, the essay needs to expand on the implications of free water supply, such as economic impacts or infrastructure challenges, and ensure the response meets the length requirement to allow for full development of the position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, as it is presented as a single block of text. This makes it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices, such as 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion', they are used mechanically and do not effectively link the sentences into a cohesive argument. The flow between sentences is often abrupt, particularly when transitioning from the scientific nature of water to the economic argument about government provision. Improving paragraphing and using a wider range of linking words would significantly enhance the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'great blessing of God' and 'water is a basic element' are simplistic. There are some attempts at more academic vocabulary, such as 'universal solvent' and 'conservation', but these are not integrated into a sophisticated argument. Word choice is occasionally imprecise, such as 'build some sectors' instead of 'implement policies' or 'establish infrastructure'. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive sentence structures that rely on simple vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'the water of the earth in the oceans and seas is not for drink' (should be 'not for drinking') and 'public does not buy clean water' (missing article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. The frequency of these errors, combined with the lack of varied sentence structures, limits the score. Increasing the use of complex, error-free sentences is essential for improvement.
