Student answer (Band 5.5)

The availability of clean water is basic right of public. Clean water should be provided to every house without any charges. I strongly agree with this statement as clean water is very necessary for all of us.

I advocate this view because water has a strong effect on human health. Clean water is very important for drinking. Drinking uncleaned water can cause a lot of problems for humans as well as for animals. Drinking unfiltered water results in high fever, diphtheria and many other stomach diseases especially in children. Clean water is not necessary for drinking only it's important for washing clothes and kitchen items too. For instance, if people use contaminated for washing clothes and kitchen utensils, harmful bacteria can remain on them and may cause illness.

In addition, water is very significant for cooking. Contaminated water cannot be used in cooking as it has many bacteria in it and is smelly too. Unfiltered water may cause acne and other skin diseases if we wash face with it. Contaminated water also affects the children's health this may results in poor academic record. For instance, if children become ill after drinking unsafe water, they may miss school and fall behind in their studies.

I Conclusion, I would like to say water is one of the great blessings of Allah almighty therefore, clean water should be provided to all the humans no matter they are poor or rich as water is basic human right and no law can violates these rights

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, focusing heavily on the health risks of contaminated water rather than exploring the economic or social implications of providing it free of charge. While the position is consistent, the arguments could be more nuanced. For instance, the essay does not address the logistical or financial challenges of such a policy, which would have provided a more balanced and comprehensive discussion. The ideas are relevant but remain at a somewhat superficial level, preventing a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the phrase 'For instance' is used twice in close proximity, and the transition between sentences often feels abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be improved to create a more cohesive argument. The conclusion is present but slightly abrupt in its phrasing, which affects the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is a reliance on basic terms such as 'clean water', 'contaminated water', and 'important'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'diphtheria' and 'utensils', there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'uncleaned water' instead of 'unfiltered' or 'contaminated', and 'no law can violates' instead of 'violate'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of sophisticated or precise lexical items limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'is basic right of public'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'this may results in'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'no matter they are poor or rich'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence boundary control, particularly in the conclusion.
