Student answer (Band 5.5)

Clean water is main issue of many countries around the world. It is often argued that purified water should supply to every house free of cost because this is basic human right to drink clean water. I firmly agree with this statement because dirty water is major cause of many diseases in society.

To begin, clean water access to every person because in this present era due to polluted water many people face diseases which are threaten to their life. In many urban areas around the world fresh water mix up with the dirty water of factories and other waste because factories release their waste in canals and rivers. For instance, in Pakistan big cities like Islamabad face problem of purified water due to mixing of wastes with storage of water which increase the ratio of cancer among people. The government of Pakistan should work on this issue to decrease the percentage of diseases in society.

Moreover, the purified water is right of every person because every one pay taxes to their governments for getting good facilities and the clean water supply also include in the major facilities which is important for health of people. The dirty water affect the immune system of human which is main cause of hepatitis.

To conclude, supply clean water to every house with out any cost is right of every citizen because every person of society pay taxes to their governments for such kind of facilities and the dirty water also affect the health many people and main cause of cancer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water supply. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health implications and the role of taxation. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the link between dirty water and disease. While the example of Islamabad is specific, the argument could be strengthened by exploring the economic feasibility or potential counter-arguments to provide a more balanced and comprehensive discussion. The conclusion restates the main points but does not add significant depth to the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the mention of factories and the specific example of Islamabad could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas feels a bit circular due to the repetition of the health argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'clean water', 'dirty water', and 'diseases'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'fresh water mix up with the dirty water' or 'ratio of cancer'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the range is limited. To improve, the student should focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and collocations to express ideas more fluently and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles ('is main issue', 'is right of every person'), incorrect verb forms ('should supply to every house' instead of 'should be supplied'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('every one pay taxes'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
