Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against free water. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas regarding water conservation and government revenue are relevant, they are underdeveloped. The conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, you must expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations and examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', the connections between sentences are occasionally repetitive or simplistic. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between the introduction, body, and conclusion could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, clear idea that logically follows the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good idea', 'new ideas', and 'a lot amount of water'. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'hash out' (which is too informal) and 'responsblety' (spelling error). To improve, aim to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to environmental policy and economics. Avoid informal phrasal verbs and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'if government charge on water so it reduce the waste' (subject-verb agreement and conditional structure errors) and 'when its raining there they store rain water' (punctuation and tense issues). The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering conditional sentences and subject-verb agreement. Proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization errors will also help improve your score significantly.
