Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that clean water should supply to the people without any cost. As water is needed to conduct different kinds of activities in our daily life, I strongly agree with the view that water supply should be provided free of charge.

There are a number of reasons for distributing water without any cost. One possible reason is that water is a basic human need. Without water, it is difficult for human to survive because it is used to prepare food, washing clothes and other daily activities. The function of different organ of human body cannot operate without adequate water. So, water supply should be free to the people. In addition, pure water is beneficial for health and it prevents human from various diseases. By supplying clean water with free of charge, government will be able to ensure safe and healthy environment for the people's live.

Moreover, by providing clean water supply without charging money, authority can maintain the equal distribution of water to the society. For instance, when government initiates to supply water with free of charge, all classes of people in society can get access to the pure water supply. As a result, no social discrimination will prevail in the society in terms of wtaer supply. Furthermore, supplying clean water with free of charge allows marginalized group of people to get access the pure water supply. Due to the financial constraint many households cannot get the clean water supply. So, households can provide access to clean water if it will supply free of charge.

In conclusion, since providing water free of charge brings a wide range of benefits to the society, I strongly agree with the statement that clean water is provided free of charge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding basic human needs and social equality are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay could be improved by acknowledging the counter-argument—such as the potential for water wastage or the economic burden on governments—to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion. While the ideas are supported, they are somewhat repetitive in their phrasing. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-elaborated point rather than restating the same concept in different words.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'In addition' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'supplying clean water with free of charge'. Improving the variety of cohesive links and ensuring that pronouns or synonyms are used to avoid excessive repetition would enhance the flow and coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their position clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'marginalized group' and 'financial constraint'. However, there are noticeable errors in collocation and word choice, such as 'clean water should supply to the people' (should be supplied) and 'with free of charge' (should be 'free of charge'). Additionally, there is a spelling error ('wtaer'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with passive voice constructions ('should supply to the people' instead of 'should be supplied') and article usage ('the society', 'the pure water'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'government initiates to supply water with free of charge'. To achieve a higher band, the writer should focus on mastering passive voice structures and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement, as well as refining the use of articles.
