Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed that as a human being, getting drinkable water is a primary right. Thus, water should be supplied in each household free of cost. I agree that it is our basic right but providing free water is not applicable in all scenarios as it hampers a country's economy.

Water is an everyday need for all of us whether to cook food, run devices or just to drink it. There is not a moment in life wheere we can survive without water. All the alternatives we might be thinking such as juice, food and many more also requires water to sustain. There are lots of people who are deprived of acess to clean drinking water and forced to consume impure one. In such scenarios, there must be access to water without any charge. For example, in Africa, every-year thousands of people lose their life due to unavailability of proper water which is a miserable thing. Thus, in such cases clean water must be provided without charging any amount.

However, it is not possible to make pure water accessbile to everyone for free. It is not about feeding few hundred people but a whole 7 billion population. For a single bottle of clean water, it required to go through several purification methods which requires budget to run. Global economy also falls down which directly affects the individuals eventually. Although there are several situations when there is necessity of free clean water but it is not possible to implement it everywhere.

In conclusion, access to pure water is a need of every individual but it is not possible to make it chargeless. Depending on the situation, proper action regarding access to free water should be taken.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that acknowledges the human right to water while highlighting the economic impracticality of universal free supply. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of purification costs and the distinction between humanitarian aid and global infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding the 'global economy' falling down is a bit vague and could have been better explained with more specific economic reasoning. Overall, the position remains consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Thus', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'all the alternatives we might be thinking such as juice, food and many more also requires water', which lacks a smooth connection to the previous sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'impure', 'deprived', and 'implement', which are used correctly. However, there are some spelling errors ('wheere', 'acess', 'accessbile') and minor collocation issues, such as 'chargeless' instead of 'free of charge' or 'provided at no cost'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'it required to go through' (should be 'it requires') and 'there is necessity of free clean water' (missing article 'a'). Subject-verb agreement is occasionally inconsistent, for example, 'all the alternatives... requires water' (should be 'require'). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the sentence structures are varied enough to maintain interest and demonstrate a reasonable level of control.
