Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 176 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While the student takes a clear position, the arguments regarding health and economic benefits for the poor are repetitive and lack depth. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. To improve, the student must expand on their points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples, ensuring the essay reaches the required length to fully address all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The major reason is' and 'Another reason is', but they are somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a completed conclusion disrupts the overall flow. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, clear idea that transitions logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'clean water' and 'poor background'. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'purify water' instead of 'purified water' and 'beloved from low background' which is an incorrect collocation. Spelling errors, such as 'reduse' and 'tjis', also detract from the quality of the writing. To improve, the student should work on using more precise academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('at every house'), subject-verb agreement, and awkward phrasing ('it is need for daily routine'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors and the lack of complex sentence structures limit the score. The student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
