Student answer (Band 6.0)
Availability of clean water is one of humans fundamental right. This implies that every home should have a free water supply. In my opinion, water is very essential for human survival and should be made available and free.
On the one hand, in maintaining a healthy society free clean water is needed. Most of the diseases in our society, higher percentage of them are caused by contaminated water. A healthy society is a wealthy one, it can indirectly affect the productivity of the society and reduce the life expectancy of the individuals living there. Secondly, providing clean water free will encourage personal hygiene and a clean environment. Most people might not afford clean water on their own, or might source their water in a dirty river or stream. These can affect their personal hygiene. Furthermore, clean water are used in almost every day activities, such as cooking, washing, and construction. Availability of free water will encourage the development of infrastructures in the society.
On the other hand, the cost of maintenance should no be overlooked as the government might not sustain the provision of free water supply to every home in the long run, so the elites are encouraged to assist the government in the provision of other alternative sources for free water supply to the people. Lastly, individuals should be encouraged to minimize wastage of clean water. In as much as the water is free it should not be wasted so that it can benefit everyone.
In conclusion, access to clean water should a paramount priority of any government so as to reduce water bourn diseases and encourage personal hygiene.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between clean water and public health, and the mention of infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the 'elites' assisting the government is vague and lacks a clear connection to the main premise of water as a human right. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or logical consequences, ensuring that each paragraph directly supports your central thesis without introducing tangential ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition to the role of 'elites' in the second body paragraph. To improve, work on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the transition between ideas is smoother and more natural rather than relying on simple list-like connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contaminated,' 'infrastructure,' and 'paramount.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'water bourn diseases' (should be 'water-borne') and 'humans fundamental right' (should be 'human's fundamental right'). You also repeat 'society' frequently, which limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and enhance the overall tone of your argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'clean water are used' (subject-verb agreement), 'should no be overlooked' (missing 't'), and 'access to clean water should a paramount priority' (missing 'be'). Punctuation is generally functional, but these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work to catch these small but frequent slips, particularly regarding verb forms and missing auxiliary verbs.
