Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 127 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While the student takes a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting examples required for an academic essay. The response ends abruptly mid-sentence, indicating a failure to complete the task. To improve, the student must expand on their arguments with specific examples and ensure the essay structure includes a clear introduction, body paragraphs with supporting evidence, and a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt to group ideas into short paragraphs, the lack of development and the abrupt ending make the overall structure disjointed. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused or absent, making the flow of ideas mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is non-existent. To improve, the student should use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect sentences and ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several spelling errors, such as 'goverment', 'healty', 'necessery', and 'purify' (used instead of 'purified'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient for an academic task, relying on simple, high-frequency words. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to ensure clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'goverment are responsible' (subject-verb agreement), 'utilities should be provide' (passive voice error), and 'Every human has its right' (incorrect pronoun). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of passive voice, while gradually introducing more complex sentence structures.
