Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is aruged that clean water is a fundamental of evry human rights. there for goverment should have provide a clean water supply to every cictenz of their country of cost.
First, access to clean water is essential for survuval and health. without it, people suffer from diseasses. for example, in rural areas of pakistan, many children fall ill because they drink contaminated water. therefore, the goverment has a responsibility to ensure a basic supply is available to everyone. However, providing unlimited free water to every home is not practical. water treatment, pipes, and maintainance cost a lot of money. if it is free, people may waste it by leaving taps open. in countires like Australia, people pay for water but the goverment gives a minimum amount free to poor families. this is a better system.
in conclucion, i believe clean water should be guranteed as a basic right, but it shloud not be completely free. a fair system would be to provide a minimum amount free all, and charge for usage above that limit. it is widely believed that access to clean water is a basic human right. consequently, some people argue thst every houshold should recieve a water supply free of charge. while i agree that goverments must ensure everyone has to clean water i do not think it should be completey free for all . i believe it should not be entirly free. a system that provide a basic free allowence and charge for extra use is the most sustainable and responsible option.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that water is a right but should not be entirely free. However, the essay suffers from significant structural issues. The student essentially writes two introductions and two conclusions, repeating the same arguments twice in different ways. This repetition indicates a lack of planning and development. While the main ideas—health benefits versus economic practicality—are relevant, the repetitive nature of the text prevents a fully developed, cohesive argument. The position is clear, but the execution is disjointed, which limits the score for task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow due to the repetitive structure. The text begins with an introduction, moves to body paragraphs, and then restarts with a second introduction and conclusion at the end. This makes the progression of ideas confusing. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'First', 'However', 'consequently'), they are often used to link redundant information rather than to build a coherent argument. Paragraphing is also problematic, as the final section of the essay acts as a second, unnecessary summary that disrupts the overall organization of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'aruged', 'evry', 'cictenz', 'survuval', 'diseasses', 'maintainance', 'conclucion', 'guranteed', 'shloud', and 'entirly'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'contaminated water' and 'sustainable', the overall range is limited. The repetition of phrases like 'basic human right' and 'free of charge' further restricts the lexical variety, keeping the score in the lower range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including missing articles ('the goverment'), subject-verb agreement issues ('a system that provide'), and capitalization errors (starting sentences with lowercase letters). Punctuation is also weak, with many run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical slips and mechanical errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction and punctuation.
