Student answer (Band 6.0)
Water is a basic need for every individual on this planet. So that's why every house should have access to water without any charges. I would not agree with this argument because as the population grows our natural reservoirs of water are depleting at very high rate and many uneducated people waste so much water, there is need for a minimal fee on it.
We all are living in a world, where we have many problems and reduction in fresh water resources is one of the biggest problem. Earth has 70% of water but a minimal amount of it is drinkable. Many countries has no access to underground drinkable water. How many countries satisfy there people need for water? It is really an emerging issue. For instance, government of Dubai have planted a water purifier system, which purifies ocean water to fulfil their needs. Cleaning ocean water is not an optimal choice because that water will never be a better replacement of natural drinkable water because it have not such nutrients and minerals in it.
On the other hand, people are not educated enough to save water as much as they can. Most of the people use more water than their capacity. Furthermore, they many countries have predicted that they are going to have issues related to water shortage in future but they are not doing anything related to educating people. Even people are not taking it seriously. For example, due to global warming glaciers are melting and due to lack of water dams, the water goes straight into ocean. And the interesting part is that people are not raising voices for making dams. That's why there must be a minimal fee for water access for each home, so the governments in developing countries make dams and initiate programs to educate people
In conclusion, Water is the fundamental right of every citizen in a country, so it should be free for everyone. In my opinion, I would not coincide with this statement because now drinking water resources are less and people are not aware of conservation of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against free water. However, the development is inconsistent. While you provide reasons such as resource depletion and the need for conservation, the argument is somewhat contradictory; you state in the conclusion that water is a 'fundamental right' and 'should be free', which directly conflicts with your earlier stance. To improve, ensure your position remains consistent throughout the essay. Some ideas, such as the mention of Dubai's desalination, are relevant but could be more effectively linked to the core argument about pricing as a conservation tool.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'On the other hand' to link points. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'So that's why' at the start. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the internal logic within the conclusion is confusing because it contradicts the main body of the essay. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that your concluding summary aligns with your body paragraphs will help achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'natural reservoirs', 'depleting', and 'fundamental right'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'satisfy there people need' (should be 'satisfy their people's needs') and 'have not such nutrients' (should be 'lack such nutrients'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more academic synonyms for common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Many countries has no access', 'government of Dubai have planted') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement rules and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
