Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's world, pollution is causing water to become toxic and people believe access to pure water is a basic right of citizens of a country so each home should be provided with a water supply free of cost. I strongly agree with the viewpoint that pure, clean water should be available to people because it reduces healthcare cost and creates equality between people from different economic status.
On the one hand, water is a basic necessity for humans to live. Additionally, the water we consume needs to be clean so that we can benefit from it and its nutrients. If the water in use is not clean, it can cause health problems such as cholera, typhoid fever, and hepatitis A. As a result, healthcare cost on government funded institution increases while affecting the population health which can also play a factor in declining economy. For example, if people have water bores at home that do not use filters, it can cause diseases that will increase pressure on state's hospitals.
On the other hand, if free access to water is available to every individual in a country, it will not create disparity among people from different economic background. Poor people do not have the option to buy filtered, clean water for their family because of inadequate financial conditions. Furthermore, in rural areas all over the world, girls are assigned with the task to bring water from wells which effects their education. Another crucial factor is time which is saved as people do not have to walk long distances to find safe filtered state plants. For instance, if an individual fills water cans from a filter plant that is 15 minutes away from their home, it requires both time and effort.
In my opinion, governments should provide free access to clean, filtered water to every individual so that the citizens of the country are healthy and are able to contribute to their country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding public health and socio-economic equality. The ideas are extended with examples, such as the mention of water-borne diseases and the impact on rural education. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is more balanced; for instance, the argument about rural girls' education is a strong point that could have been linked more explicitly to the 'free of charge' aspect of the prompt. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Additionally,' and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing healthcare costs to the example of water bores could be more tightly integrated. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'disparity,' 'inadequate financial conditions,' and 'necessity.' There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'healthcare cost on government funded institution increases' (should be 'costs' and 'institutions') and 'effects their education' (should be 'affects'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. The range is adequate for the task, but further development of topic-specific collocations would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are recurring grammatical errors that slightly impede the flow. For instance, 'healthcare cost... increases' lacks proper subject-verb agreement, and 'girls are assigned with the task' is slightly unnatural phrasing. There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. Despite these slips, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not cause significant difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions.
