Student answer (Band 5.0)
Access to clean water is essential for human survival and good health and it is a basic human need. Some people largely believe that government should provide freshwater to public for free. I firmly agree with this. Nevertheless i also also consider that water should be charged if consumed beyond limits.
Firstly, as the freshwater is vital for humanity, government should make it accessible to public free of cost. Water is human body's need and proving it to all for free, especially to lower-income households, since it is hugely used in almost every meal and beverage. In addition, clean water contributes in better human health. For instance, drinkable water can prevent numerous diseases such as irritation, fin rot and cloudy eye.
However, providing water to public for free is absolutely a fabulous idea but in order to make it reality government will have to build supporting infrastructure which will require capital to build as well as maintain. Furthermore not

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits your ability to develop your arguments. While you state a clear position, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. Because the response is unfinished and lacks the necessary depth and length to fully address the prompt, it falls into the lower band range. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, two or three well-developed body paragraphs with specific examples, and a concluding summary. You need to expand on your reasoning rather than just stating points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization through the use of transition words like 'Firstly' and 'However'. However, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to assess the overall coherence of the piece. Paragraphing is present, but the structure is incomplete. To improve, focus on creating a clear, logical flow between sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a topic sentence followed by supporting evidence and a concluding thought. The lack of a proper conclusion and the unfinished nature of the final paragraph hinder the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication, but it lacks the range and precision expected for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'infrastructure' and 'lower-income households', but there are also awkward choices such as 'fin rot and cloudy eye' (which are fish diseases, not human ones) and 'fabulous idea' (which is too informal for an academic essay). To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding informal or irrelevant terminology. Expand your vocabulary related to social policy and economics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'government should provide freshwater to public' (missing articles) and 'i also also consider' (repetition and capitalization). You attempt some complex structures, but they are often marred by errors in subject-verb agreement or article usage. The sentence structure is relatively simple. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles ('the' government, 'the' public) and ensure you proofread for repetitive words and basic punctuation errors. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help.
